RE: Batteries discharging

How are the fluid levels in the batteries? Also have you tried cleaning the battery cables?

RE: Campground near DisneyWorld

Another vote for FW for the same reasons as above plus we found that if we stayed at FW we didn't go into one of the theme parks everyday because there was plenty to do at the campground. That saved us a day of tickets prices plus the grandkids enjoyed just riding bikes, looking at the animals, and taking in a day in the pool that never closes. Gave everybody a break from standing in lines all the time too.

RE: Dolley or flat tow?

We've used a dolly with our last motorhome and flat towing with this one now that we are full time. It is a matter of preference and what you already own. One suggestion I would make, if you decide to use a dolly, get a hitch on the back of the minivan so you can use the minivan to move the dolly around within the campground if necessary. We did that with our Honda Accord and that helped a lot on the few occasions when we couldn't fit the tow dolly at our campsite.

RE: First post - Class A question 30amp question

I am researching Class A motorhomes and have come across a few that have 2 AC units, but only 30amp service. This puzzles me as I wouldn't expect to be able to be able to operate 2 AC units and other electrical loads off of 30amps. Is there something that I am missing or do you have to run the generator with shore power in order to operate all the electrical loads? More questions to follow. As you can see from the other posts, it depends on the unit how it will work. You may have to manually switch between the units when on shore power alone or there may be some type of system that will switch between them for you. You may be able to run both at once on with the generator depending upon the size of the generator. You can run both at once with shore power and the generator. Another possibility is that a motorhome has 2 AC units that pull less than 30 amps combined. The reason a motorhome may have 2 AC units even if you can't run them both at once is so you can use the front one while you are in the front of the coach and then use the rear one while sleeping in the bedroom area. If a unit only has one AC unit in the front of the coach, depending upon the coach size and floorplan and your desired comfort level, it may not cool enough in the bedroom.

RE: Which Disney Park

If you have to choose, I would say animal kingdom unless you are heavily into movies.

RE: Avoid Sears

If you use a product for 2 1/2 years, then are unhappy with it, and a company offers to refund your entire purchase price, I call that excellent customer service. I shop at Sears because of their excellent support of Guard and Reserve members called to active duty. They make up any difference in salary and continue the employees medical coverages for up to 2 years of active duty. They have been and continue to be one of the best employer supporters of our military.

RE: Driving from Ontario to Florida

A lot of folks talk about Starke & Waldo on US301 which is a cross over route from I-95 to I-75 in north east Florida. Depending upon where in Ontario you are coming from I don't think you will be in that area.

RE: Need clothes washer dryer for full time?

We were part time in our old rig for five years without a washer dryer. One have been full time in this motorhome with a combo washer dryer. I prefer having the combo than having none. We don't have room for a stackable unit. If you boondock or dry camp a lot then you won't get much use out of an onboard washer/dryer. If you are normally in a full hookup situation, then you are more likely to want one in the rig. Also if you are normally in one place for weeks or months at a time, it would be easier to get comfortable with using the same laundromat. If you move every week, then it gets to be a pain finding a decent laundromat. So to sum it up for me, it is like most things in an RV, it depends on how you camp.

Thousand Palms, CA to San Diego Naval Station

Trying to decide which way to go. Looking for scenic routes appropriate for a 40 foot motorhome. How is CA-371 vs CA-79? Or just take I-10 to I-15 via ? Not really interested in see Las Angeles while in the motorhome. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

RE: Inverter/Charger - True Sine Wave vs Modified

Dave I do not think most electronic equipment today even uses AC current so as long as there is any waveform from an inverter the transformer in the device should get the DC it needs. We have some low end inverters that power the computer and CPAP machine just fine. I'm not sure I understand this answer. The modified wave has been powering our things whenever we have used the inverter over the past year. I'm concerned about the long term impact on the electronics not whether it will provide power.

Inverter/Charger - True Sine Wave vs Modified

Looking for some independent advice from someone not trying to sell me something. We have had our coach almost a year now and I'm just realizing that Monaco used a modified wave inverter/charger in it. We had added a Prosine 2000 watt True Sine Wave inverter to our old gas coach we traded in. Had I known what was in this new coach, we would have made the dealer trade inverters with us. Anyway, I digress. We have already had to have the 32 inch Sharp Aquos TV replaced (at Monaco's cost) plus replaced two Directv DVR's which were 5 years old to be fair. Monaco is saying that the Magnum ME 2012 that they put in our coach is ok for electronics but I thought you should use True Sine Wave for things like newer TV's, laptops, DVR's, cell phone charging, etc. What are your thoughts? In order to protect our electronics, should we replace the inverter we have for a True Sine Wave from Xantrex? If so, watch for the Magnum on E-bay. Thanks

RE: Tuning Direct sat for multiple episodes of a soap??

sorry I have no idea if it will do that. After we got our first DVR, I haven't used a VCR since. The DVR was very little more per month than a regular receiver and it was so very much more user friendly than our VCR that I donated the VCR to the local elementary school. Good luck

RE: Tuning Direct sat for multiple episodes of a soap??

I'm not sure I get your question - are you trying to set the View up to record everyday? If you have a standard receiver, a standard receiver only receives it doesn't record. If you have a DVR, you just set up a season pass for the show. ????????

RE: "Who's Going to Alaska in 2009?"

We have been full time for 1 year now and are planning to go solo in 2009. We have a couple of friends who are talking about going with us but I don't think they will actually go. In some ways I think it is almost harder to decide on when and where to go because we have unlimited time (except for weather) and no real idea what we want to see when we go. Just starting to read our new Milepost and Frommers Alaska 2008 books and of course this forum. We'll be in southern California for the winter and start heading north as the weather permits. Maybe we'll see some of you on the trip.

RE: DC beltway time of day

Agree with other replies except avoid Sunday evenings because DC has a lot of folks who only go home on the weekends and they return to DC on Sunday evenings.

RE: Leaving Cats at home with Care while gone for 2months

I have a little different take on this than some of the other posts. We have two cats, one of which tends to eat less and less the longer we are gone. The other one will try harder and harder to get outside the longer we are gone. That said I would still go on your trip since you have a trusted caregiver, but I would want to have some sort of back up plan in place especially if you are going very far away.

RE: RVparkreviews.com

I personally use several review sites...this seems to give me a pretty good "feeling" of the particular campground I am looking at.. what other sites do you use?

RE: RV's and state weigh stations

In Maryland, all vehicles over 10,000 lbs. are required to stop at the weigh stations. Maryland has adopted the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations which exempt non-commercial recreational vehicles from those safety regulations but not from size and weight laws. If Maryland has adopted ...... which EXEMPT non-commercial recreational vehicles .......... not from size and weight laws. I am not a lawyer but I spent a good portion of my military career reading and interpreting laws in order to write regulations. I read the above to say that RV's are Exempt from stopping at weigh stations but just because they are an RV they cannot exceed the size and weight laws of said state. For instance is the maximum length for vehicles in the state is 50 feet, then your RV can't be 55 feet. Also you quote the responses but sometimes the response you get is due to the information that is or is not included in the question and the way the question is worded. If the vehicle is registered as a COMMERCIAL vehicle then it isn't an exempt non-commercial vehicle and must stop if it exceeds 10,000 lbs.

RE: sure guard surge protector question

Progressive Industries This is a good site to gather information. We purchased ours from them and the way ours works is Good Power or No Power. If the unit senses bad power, too high, too low, surge, etc., then it cuts off the power to the coach. When it senses Good Power again, it automatically resets and lets the power go on into the coach. Ours is hardwired into the outside bay of the coach in such a way that we can remove it and use it in our next coach if there is a next coach. Love ours.
